DO YOU HAVE BASIC IT REQUIREMENTS?
We try to assess and provide the best solutions for the widest range of needs.
On this page we give you a very basic list of some of the things you should be considering to help create a point of reference.
Here we look at some things to consider if your IT requirements are fairly basic:
Wired or Wireless – These days comes in many different shapes and sizes. When the network is relatively small and needs basic it may be worth considering a purely wireless network. This can give you the freedom you need to move around with laptops if you don’t have desktop computers.
Internet Speed – Internet speed needs can depend on the applications installed and used, so consider the applications you are using. If you are using basic email and web and your files are local (on the PCs or a NAS), then you won’t need much bandwidth. A smaller network with less users and more local storage and applications may mean a slower (more cost effective) internet connection may be a sufficient option.
Cloud Computing – Depends on the applications used and the size of files being created or accessed. A business with small amount of data may also be better suited to purely cloud computing.
Server and Storage – Companies with larger networks and using larger files will need more local storage space. Smaller networks might be able to survive with storage on the cloud. This all depends completely on the type and size of the files.
Home Workers – Basic needs can be easier to implement at home BUT beware the security issues that may occur. A secure homeworker environment normally needs an authentication method. This means implementing technology to make sure the person accessing the corporate files is genuine. For more information take a look at our remote working page HERE.
Software Needed – The basic needs company can look at Office365, which includes a very good range of software. This includes software such as Word, Excel and Outlook that will cover most needs. Other software may include Sage online or FreeAgent for accounting. You should also look at safe browsers such as Chrome and Skype or WhatsApp for communications.
Computers Needed – Based mainly on the need for flexibility, if the users are going to be working remotely or from different locations, laptops or tablets should be considered. In other networks a purely static PC is more than sufficient. Specification depends on work requirements, the more complex the software the more RAM and processing power needed.
Communications – there are many options these days to communicate with clients, suppliers, prospects and Aunty Flo. Many applications (such as WhatsApp) are available on mobile, tablet and computer making it easy to communicate wherever you are. Determine what you need and find the best solution to do that, often the simplest is the best.
Collaboration – often a necessity whatever the size or complexity of the company. Collaboration applications give 2 or more users the opportunity to work together, on the same files with little risk of losing data. There are many collaboration platforms, like Teams or Notion, depends on the task in hand.
Training – smaller companies tend to have wider needs for each user, larger companies have more defined needs for each user group. For companies with more basic needs, consider a package of several skills at a less comprehensive level.
